a few notes for this morning:
1.) Has the love for Krispy Kreme died? I bought a box and brought it in today, thinking that they would be gone in 5 minutes, yet over half the box still lies on my desk, feeling unwanted and unloved. Poor donuts (and yes, that is how they are spelled in my world, donuts. That's how they spell them in Spain, too, except since they're not as popular, they're also a brand unto themselves.).

2.)I did it again. I was supposed to come in at 8 all this week, but instead I came in at 9 every day until today, when i came in at 830, which is the usual time i get in. damn it, now i have to feel all guilty and come in early monday. All this lateness also means no columbia, and i was excited about going to new york next week.

3.)This afternoon and tomorrow should be fun. I hope everyone likes Africa, or at least hearing about it.

ok, i hate officewide lunches, for one simple reason: goddamn sandwiches. I hate them, won't eat them. Have I in the past? yeah, when i was in spain i ate whatever was put in front of me, except for blood sausage. but look, my lunch hour is my lunch hour, don't steal it from me and try to replace it with stupid cold cuts and expect me to say "oh thank you! this is wonderful!" i know this is petty, but you know what, i really don't like taking lunch early and i don't like being fucked over in terms of food.

look, I said this at work the other day and got some weird responses, but I believe this: John McCain is dreamy. yes, dreamy. I mean, did you watch Hardball tonight? I wouldn't have, except he was on. he knew who the white stripes (fellow guests on snl this week) are, considers Barry Goldwater and Teddy Roosevelt his heroes and mentors, and can lay claim to the progressive tradition of the Republican party, in fact, he may be the only one who can do so. That link can't die, it just can't. Please run again. Jesus, people, c'mon! The guy can recite lines from Hemingway! Can our current president, heck, could our last president do that? I mean, Clinton is your likeable sleazy uncle, and while you liked him, there was that bit of discomfort about him, admit it.But McCain, McCain is your cool grandfather who wasn't hip or any shit like that, but who you loved because he was just such an amazing person. ok, i like my grandparents, but they're not as cool or smart as John McCain. you get the picture.

ugh, I'm at work and really not prepared for it. This is another Cyprus moment, and Erin knows exactly what I mean. The rest of you can figure it out, especially if you are wannabe Eurotrash. As for others, I'm sorry, and I'm one of the few who can say that, but when you make your own bed and gamble, you've gotta face the outcome and take your losses, and try as you might to limit them, don't blame them on others. And this isn't just for you, but for everyone: honesty is the best policy, because while it may not gain you the short term outcome you desire, in the long term it does make you a better person, one with fewer second guesses and guilt. Yeah, there are a few situations where it might be beneficial to hide the truth, but there aren't a lot of those situations, and I don't think this is one of those cases where that is the best policy. I can think of more than one situation where this is advice people could use. I'm just glad I get to be the voyeur in this situation, and am not involved in any way whatsoever. Anyway, feel free to call me a hypocrite when i do the exact opposite of this advice, because I will, but like Jim Bakker asked and Phil Collins said, do as I say, don't do as I do.
